Comedy timing it seems, after chasing a domain for 3 years I finally managed to secure and purchase SJ.co.uk
They don’t get any shorter or rarer than that in the UK domain space (at present) only 25 LL.co.uk domains (letter letter) are in existence as they were registered before Nominet started operation, one’s like BT.co.uk VW.co.uk & HP.co.uk date back to pre Aug 1996.
This week Nominet announced they are looking into releasing 2 letter and single letter domains - so interesting times ahead for sure which should create quite a bizz and lot’s of interest at some point.
I had been chasing SJ.co.uk since 2007, the domain was not in use as the company had changed name some time ago, in 2007 I offered £1000 and every year I went back and asked again, and again, and again. Finally this year I saw the old Ltd company the name was registered under was dissolved so informed them, they updated the domain and told me they were open to serious offers. There were a few other interested parties with one of them swearing profusely when told the company was asking around £10k for it, I managed to buy it for high £x,xxx. A very short, memorable and valuable domain which is perhaps too vanity driven being my initials so one I probably won’t sell.
Very nice domain!! Your persistence finally paid off!
Any plans on what you’re going to do with it? Maybe just a site portfolio or something similar?
Yep probably along those lines for now Adam.
Nice domain for you, but I just don’t get the 2-3 char domain thing. I realise they are rare, but beyond that what is so special?
To an extent like any generic, the value for a business of a short domain/name would be for it to be trustworthy, memorable and easily brandable, BP - HP - JJ - VW - BMW type of thing.High recall value especially when it came to advertising. For me it’s an asset that will be a long term investment and likely portfolio site.
I was wondering what you had got - was expecting a big generic buy so was quite suprised it was a two letter domain. Once had someone wanting wltm.co.uk because it was their initials (supposedly).
Well done that’s so cool.
I realise these are valuable but the same as someone above - I just wouldn´t know how to monetise one and make it worth the outlay.
thats not to say I wouldnt snap up adw.co.uk (my initials) or something if I had the cash spare!
I was going to say, before I read the whole post, if they do start releasing 2 letter domains in the UK it will be like the car reg plate thing - with everyone going for their initials. I know I would, same as you. I bet some arse somehow registers them all before most people get a look-in though. 🙂

FTFY 🙂
Congrats man. Thats something to be happy about.
Nice work!
Very nice domain and very very hard to get them that short! well done.
Awesome domain Scott, congrats! You’ve really got to have your finger on the pulse to get domains like this!
I had no idea that nominet is was planning to release single and double letter domain names so thank you for the headsup! 🙂
Congrats on acquiring that domain, my friend. I know how hard it can be to bag something like that, having gone through the same ordeal recently.
Till then,
Jean
Nice one Scott, goes to show that sometimes if you stick at it you get a result in the end.
Cracking domain. The scarcety of the combination makes it so very valuable. Will be interesting to see what Nominet come up with when they release plans for opening the LL domain space shortly. May well drive interest for existings LL domains!
Whoah! That domain is so expensive! Congratulations on your purchase. Wanted to to buy sr.co.uk but Nominet does not allow registration of two-letter third-level domains in the co.uk namespace, and I even wonder if that’s still available.
you own SJ.co.uk? thats awesome! that only 2 letter domain I’ve ever come across is CJ.com, this is awesome for branding purposes and extremely memorably aswell, congratulations:)

Congratulations! Are we gonna see new content on that domain soon? Can’t wait! I wish I can afford a two-letter co.uk domain.
Wow, what a great purchase Scott, just goes to show you that persistence does win the game! 😀
well done buddy! I would have gave up a long time ago…
man I wonder how much money is gong to spent out for X.co.uk
Having your initials on a co dot uk domain s no small feat. I expect a beautifully monogrammed landing page with some call to action at least 😉
Enjoy!
Small is the new Big
im looking for short domain names that are highly brandable and catchy
Glad you finally got it! 3 years woow!
I agree, short domain names are invaluable because they’re easy to remember which means more returning clients/visitors. Any plans on what you’re going to use it for?
Nice buy! Although if your initials weren’t SJ what would you use it for?
You’d have to come up with a new brand!
Talk about patience and persistence mate1 Congrats on getting the domain after, what, 3 yrs of waiting. I bet you have a something awesome you want to do with it. I’d be glad to know about it.
Cheers!
