Think Visibility and Other News

It’s been something of an eventful few weeks on the business front, so I’ll summarise stuff that I currently have going on.

New York Trip
I spent a very long and enjoyable weekend in New York discussing plans for a new business in a totally different niche for me. Domains are registered, artwork and theme are in progress, now waiting on content before official launch. I will do a case study on this in the near future.

Think Visibility
Last weekend I spoke at Think Visibilty, an absolutely amazing mini conference organised by The Hodge. Tickets cost £30 and I think every attendee would agree that was awesome value for money. I won’t do a full review here as many people have beaten me to it, check out posts by:

The next Think Visibility conference is already taking shape and a venue is booked in Leeds on September 12th 2009, so make a note in your diary as you don’t want to miss it (I will announce when tickets are available (hopefully with an affiliate link 🙂 )).

Congrats again Dom you did a sublime job organising your first conference.

Added Another Blog to the Portfolio
I was approached by an old friend to see if I wanted to buy one of his blogs, after a bit of bartering and a price I could not say no to, I am now the proud owner of TechCult.com. Due to an NDA I cannot go into exact details but it gets between 5K and 10K visitors per day and is a great addition to my tech network.

Earnings Disclosure
I’ve been asked by a number of people to post another earnings breakdown report. Generally I don’t mind sharing this sort of info but things that are going on in my life at the moment I’d be foolish to document my earnings. Suffice to say I’m doing okay and re-investing heavily into other sites and ventures. I am also enjoying the continual slide of sterling against the dollar (though I did suffer when in NYC). I am now heading to the bank to pay in a backlog of US$ checks, including Christmas commissions 🙂 .

Have a great week everybody!

  3. Thanks Al, enjoyed meeting you too!

  4. I was going to the event but then realised it was at the weekend. I can get off work easy enough, but with the kids and all weekends are tricky.

Look forward to the next one.

  5. someone forgot!!! I realised at about 10pm on the Saturday!!

  6. I enjoyed it so much, I wrote two posts: http://www.brewsterware.com/archives/quick-think-visibility-recap.html and http://www.brewsterware.com/archives/wordpress-hotlink-prevention-plugin.html

  7. It was a great conference! I’m looking forwards to the next one. Good luck with TechCult and the new niche you are working in.

  8. You know you’ve made it when you go on business trips to New York 🙂 BTW Al when I visit your techcult website I see a lot of javascript coding, in the sidebar below the subscription box, don’t know if you’re already onto it.

  9. I’m glad you’re doing well for yourself.. a lot of people are struggling just now!!!! I need to get my act together and think of some money-making schemes!! I’d love to go on a business trip to New York!

  10. I gotta say - techcult looks like a pretty decent site content-wise. Honestly, I haven’t subscribed to another tech blog for a verrrry long time, as most are basically the same, but this is hilarious stuff!

  11. Looks like a nice site.
I have to start buying some established sites soon I think - its my retirement plan! Just not sure whether to go blogs or static with little maintenance - I suppose given blogs are naturally more adaptable to changing world they are more future proof?
Must look more at the whole “hiring writers” thing you seem to do so well at…

  12. Great news they have organised another Think Visibility event so quickly! Makes a difference being on a Saturday.. Seems like a long way away, but from the reviews, it looks like something to look forward to.

  13. I’m looking forward to the next Think Visibility, I just hope Dom doesn’t increase the price too much more, otherwise I can’t afford it (flights and hotel costs are not cheap!). Though I have done a speaker submission, as it’d be cool to do a presentation.

  16. I totally understand about the earnings. I used to publish my earnings on my blog also, but it gets to a certain amount where your competitors with start noticing and you’d be giving away too much information.

  17. Living in South Africa the opportunity to attend conferences and events in this realm is really limited, however it is always great to hear from others about the experiences they’ve had

The UK is on the same timeline (more or less) as South Africa, and the culture and language is much more similar than with the US, so I generally find more value in UK offerings.

  18. I was going to the event but then realized it was at the weekend. I can get off work easy enough, but with the kids and all weekends are tricky.

Look forward to the next one.

  19. I wanted to be at the event too but had a super hangover ad never made it. DAMN!!

  20. Thanks for the post and for sharing such useful post. It really very resourceful.

  21. Techcult looks solid. Must be nice to be able to just acquire sites like that. I’m sure you’ll recover financially in no time. I want to hit up NY some day. Sigh gotta wait on my sites to take off.
