I love it when that happens

Maybe it’s scary, maybe it’s just poor book-keeping, maybe it shows I’m not on top of things however I still love it when that happens.

I use netvibes for a bunch of news/feeds, it offers inspiration and ideas at times, for example this morning I caught a Digg headline about having your genes analysed using the term ‘my genome’

I have a few gene related domains like genes.co.uk & genomics.co.uk but seeing it in that article the domainer/developer in me saw the beauty in the term ‘my genome’ and although I have spent more than I should have in the last 12 months I had to have a look at mygenome.co.uk as it sounded like a great domain for a business and to my surprise, I own it. Phew, I love it when that happens, I feel like I just saved myself a few quid 🙂  - looking back now it seems I bought it for £200 on the 1st January 2008. Personal genome sequencing just like led bulbs are future technologies that are just around the corner and a couple of years away from being mainstream, a good time to buy and develop, I think I should build out a few of the gene related domains and look into affiliate opportunities this year to capitalise on the groundwork I did last year in buying a few strategic domains.

  1. Scott,

Do you actually know how many domains you own?

    David

  2. Congrats. Great domain. But I’ve noticed 90% of the domains you have (from the posts atleast) are .co.uks.

    Got any good .coms?

    • Not really, I haven’t found much of value at a decent price .com wise and found more bargains in ccTLD’s - would love a good one but so far it’s eluded me.

  3. Wow! That’s awesome, congrats!

I am hoping to get into domaining in the near future. I’m worried, however, that I won’t be able to identify new trends more quickly than Joe Domainer.

Do you have any tips on identifying upcoming trends for domaining purposes, or is it just a magical process of going with your gut feeling?

    Thanks!

  5. Let say you found a niche that all .com, .net, .org, .co.uk all available?
    Which one would you buy?

I guess you will be buying .co.uk and the .com

How you rank the rest like .net, .org, .info?

  6. Reading your blog always give me some new thought 😀
Generic, mygenome, vocab like these have never appear in my mind, haha~~

  7. Scott, you mention you have over 200 domains, have you put a one page site on each of these to ensure indexed and aged etc or are you parking them currently?

  8. I’m glad it’s not just me - makes me feel better when I’m in such good company!!

    H

  9. Scott - Do you tend to get a lot of direct type-in traffic for your domains or is it more from natural search? e.g. would more people actually type in netbooks.co.uk into the url bar rather than searching in google?

  10. Hmm, maybe it’s time call Craig Venter and ask if he’s interested in buying mygenomes from you!

  11. LOL… Maybe it is time to make a little list of domains? You never know what gems might be in there 😀
