Make it Easy, Make it Obvious

So far this month I’ve had 15 record days, in terms of both profit and traffic. I’m hoping for this to continue until just before Christmas so as you can imagine I’m a tad on the busy side looking for new things to promote and ways to make the most of the traffic I already have.

This next tip is really really simple, so simple in fact that it’s easily overlooked (well it was by me anyway). At the moment people are in buying mode so make it easy and obvious for them, one thing I did was add the following button to some of my affiliate pages:

buy-now.gif

It’s a hack of one of the buttons found on Amazon (which even my limited graphical skills could do). So far the results look really good with conversions on the pages involved 50 - 100% up (how much of that can be put down to it being a day closer to Christmas I’m not sure).

So it’s a short post today, but if it’s suitable for your site could prove to be a very profitable one.

  1. Can you give us a website example where we can see this actually in practice ?

    Thanks !

  2. Thanks for showing me the example. This works only with the Amazon posts, or you use it to your all affiliate posts ? Do you think this technique would be for sidebar affliliates products ?

    Thanks

    • At the moment I’m adding it to all popular and recent affiliate posts (Amazon and others) and there are quite a few at this time of year. I am going to get another Buy It Now button designed as always using one similar to the Amazon one could be misleading.

The aim of it is to get peoples attention and make it obvious that there is a link to buy from so I can see it working fine for sidebar listed products, I’d see give it a go and see what happens.

  3. As I know Amazon has low commisions, …or it might be just my oppinon ? How is amazon for your website ?

    • You’re right Amazon commissions do start low (4%) but if you sell enough they do increase quite nicely, I’m currently at the 7% tier this month which is comparable to places like Think Geek. Amazon is currently my 3rd highest for affiliate sales after Think Geek and a Click Bank merchant.

The other nice thing about Amazon is they sell so much stuff that you can send a visitor there for one thing and they end up buying a load more.

  4. Just a few days back I told my readers to use a link titled “jetzt kaufen” which means “buy now”. I set it up on one of my affiliate-stores and my revenue almost doubled so far.

    • Thanks for sharing that Markus, if I get anything like that I’ll be really happy. So far I’ve only been able to compare Think Geek stats but should be able to see yesterdays Amazon stats in a couple of hours.

  5. Al,
I’d love to get in touch with you. I’ve got a site with some solid traffic (6,000+ uniques per day) that I’d love to be able to leverage for affiliate sales. The only problem is that most of the traffic is from kids/students. Do you think there’s anything I could do?

    Thanks

    • Depends on the niche but I’d of thought so, do you want to send me the URL via the contact form and I’ll see what I can recommend.

  6. Nice idea. So simple, yet effective.

  7. Al’ I would like to ask you if you would be interested in a link exchange with my website, you can check it, is very good. I’ve noticed your FAVES section.

Please contact me ..you have my email in this comment form.

  8. I’m still waiting to see what difference it has made to Amazon sales and they’ve had a delay with their reports, bastard.

Please note that Associates Central reports are unexpectedly running late today.

At the current time, we do not have an estimated time for when they will be published. When we know more, we will post an update.

We’re sorry for the inconvenience and are working to resolve this problem as quickly as possible.
