Which blogs have the most feed subscribers

I’m a bit of a stat head and enjoy trawling through log files and looking at pretty graphs. One statistic that I’m particularly interested in is the number of subscribers different sites have in different niches.

FeedBurner offer a great service for managing your sites feed and provide all sorts of interesting stats. You can also put one of their chicklets on your site to boast share with the world how many subscribers your site has.

I thought it would be both interesting and fun to create a top 100 (or so) of the sites with the highest feeds, so spent Saturday morning doing a big trawl around.

I’ve only been able to list sites that are both using Feedburner and choose to make their count public, so some of the big guns like Steve Pavlina, Lockergnome, etc. are absent from the list.

I will add new sites to the list as and when I find them, so if you know of a glaring omission with at least 2,000 subscribers please let us know via a comment, I’d like to build the list up to be a top 100 and as I’ve only covered a few niches that I know of I’m sure that I’ve missed plenty of others.

About Al Carlton

Al quit the 9 to 5 rat race in January of 2007, before then he was a software engineer and systems architect of financial system. Nowadays Al spends the days running his various businesses and experimenting with different ideas and opportunities.
Al can be found on twitter at AlCarlton.

  1. Good work.

Small Business Trends (smallbiztrends.com) has 31,420 subscribers as of May 8th. You’ll see the yellow Feedburner counter at the bottom of the left column underneath the orange RSS chicklet.

  2. Awesome list. I never even heard of Simply Recipes before and it has 204k readers!

  3. I wonder if anyone will hit the million mark.

  4. For updating your list, you can pick up some popular finance blogs from this post

  5. Your Top 100 blogs made me think…what about those blogs at the other end of the spectrum with the fewest subscribers? Check out my Bottom Ten of blogs. These are all great blogs with fewer than 100 subscribers, as far as I can tell.

  6. I’ve added everybody else that has left a comment with >5,000 subscribers and a chicklet I could see or find. If I missed anybody please let me know by means of a comment here. Thanks.

  7. Our Sports Supplements blog has a whopping 2 subscribers!

  8. i was a bit surprised… bizone http://bizone.wordpress.com has over a million subscriber.

    joke :-0

  9. If u interested on the opposite, just follow my site. By now it still zero comment. How fast to be 100 by comment here? Just curious…, i think it wouldn’t ever get 1st a hundred..LOL

  10. Someday, I will be in this list. I am defiantly persistant when it comes to working on my blog.

  11. It certainly does fluctuate, Tim. I had a spike at well over 2700 earlier in the summer, peaked at about 2550 middle of last week and have once again dropped down to about 2300 today. At one point over Labor Day w/e it fell to 1600 or so just for a single day then bounced back to 2450 or thereabouts.

It has to be something to do with the way Feedburner pings the different types of aggregators and readers. If lots are offline or not being run because it’s a holiday weekend, then the number falls.

Snarfer, for instance, which has Sciencebase in its science section by default, fluctuates by as much as 100% over the course of a week, which I can only assume is due to people working at a different machine when they’re out of school/work

  12. http://ilovetypography.com is a niche one; already has almost 3,500 feedburner subs, and climbing.

  13. Can you look at http://manojjasra.blogspot.com to add to your list, we sit at over 1500 subscribers

  14. thanks for the GREAT post! Very useful…

  15. Are you planning on updating this list?

  16. My Sciencebase Science Blog obviously features on the list because it hovers around the 3000 standard RSS subscriber mark, but add to that the 1000 Sciencebase Yahoo group members and our almost 1000 Odiogo listeners and we nudge slightly further up the list. Obviously, not anywhere near Engadget which seems to have passed the million subscriber point by a long way

  17. I never knew many of these blogs until I landed on this post. Thank you very much for the list. I will explore all of them.

  18. YouQuoted.com Has over 3500 subscribers.

  19. Wow… I’ve already spent several hours looking over each of these blogs and I haven’t finished yet! But I would say this is a very good and useful list. Many of the most excellent blogs I found here. Good job!

  20. Well, now I really know who the top commentators are and can check out their blogs. thanks for posting this.

  21. Sharp-eyed readers will have noticed that Sciencebase has this week consistently been well above 3000, definite breakthrough with a peak mid-week of 3421. I’m hoping for even bigger figures for next week but not holding my breath.

David Bradley’s last blog post..Night at the Web Museum

  22. TECK.IN (http://teck.in) has over 12,000 subscribers.

Sree’s last blog post..BBC World News Now on Reliance Mobile as Live Streaming

  23. Wow that is a boatload of subscribers. Almost there :)

Jacques’s last blog post..What Niche Is Right For You? 6 Niche Finding Ways

  24. Are these actual images of the feeds? Can you update this post?

  25. Interesting post. Hopefully I’ll be about to boast share my new blogs subscriber numbers once it isn’t so embarassing

  26. wonder if the number of subscribers could affect search ranking in the future?

    • Im pretty sure that this sort of stuff will already be used in the rankings now. Dont forget, feedburner is owned by Google so they have all the stats they need from this.

Why else would they have bought feedburner :)

  27. When was the last time this was updated?

  28. Last time it was updated was in 2007, will there be a 2011 version?

  29. Wow, these guys are setting the bar pretty high.
It would be cool if you could do an article on how they have managed to get thees subscribers. Of course great content I suppose, but building up a base like they have is an art form.

Very inspiring though. Thanks for the share.
