Generate revenue from your contact page

Posted by Scott on January 25th, 2010 .

justanswerIf you run a blog or information site you may be interested in the Just Answer (justanswer.com) affiliate program, having recently purchased USAGardener.com the last thing I really wanted were questions emailed to me about gardening that I have neither the knowledge or inclination to deal with so one possible idea is to use the JustAnswer affiliate program.

I was already using this on on few pet sites and it generated the odd sale here and there but putting it on the contact page on USA Gardener appears to be bringing in a sale or two a day just now, nothing massive but convenient and functional.

Ideal if you run an information site and could offer an extra income source as well as take care of particular visitor questions without getting your hands dirty, I’m making sales of around $10-$16 and from that get $1-$3 per sale.

Good idea, I often get questions via my contact form and finding the time to answer them can be difficult. This way earns some money and should also give a better experience for the user.

I’ve just recently revamped my loft conversions contact page to use reCAPTCHA – took me ages to get it working correctly :( I could have used this solution instead!

Just tried out your link but it gives an error saying I need to enter a name – but theres no field for it?

I’ve come across the just answer site before, they must be making good money, nice to be getting a small slice of that income :) Just tried again, working ok now.

Just to add to my earlier comment – setting up reCAPTCHA is easy – I had some issues with css and getting the iframe to display correctly that caused me the hassles.

Scott – how do you deal with the email from all of your sites? With so many domains it must be quite a task?

I have been thinking about using a contact page for conversions for a while now. Drive people to it and then have some sort of contextual or affiliate link.
Would use it on sites where I cant really deal with enquiries.

I have been trying to find out Googles stance on this if you were to just stick some adsense below the words “Contact us now”

I have seen this done elsewhere – anyone know if it is allowed?

I don’t think you are allowed to direct people to Adsense Andy.

I saw this on a site advertise for sale on Acorn, seemed to be converting well but I did wonder about the tactics…!

That’s a nice find. Is it a direct affiliation or through a broker like CJ etc?

Straight through the company themselves, not through a 3rd party.

That’s a great find – just installed on a couple of my sites for which I am always getting asked for advice. Will be interesting to see how well it converts.

Seems great but I am not convinced that many people will pay to have a question answered, at least not on most sites. Gardening may work well, but would other niche?

By the way, nice gardening site. Curious if you redesigned it or bought as it is. How much traffic does it get and and what did you pay for it? I would be interested to know if you don’t find the question a little intrusive.

Thanks

I found JustAnswer because I have used them (paid) twice for answers on my BMW so in some circumstances it can work well, USA Gardener was bought and gets around 1000 visitors per day at the moment in the winter, not allowed to disclose the price.

As Nesa said I’m not sure how many people would pay for an answer when there is so much free information available online, I guess the trick is to use JustAnswer on the right type of site. Definitely something worth looking into and I can see the value if used correctly.

I have been using it for a while now on a couple of forums its not a big earner but definatly worth a look as it saves all the junk that you cant answer!

Hey….thanks for the heads up on JustAnswer. Very good to know about.

On your gardener site I noticed you have your email address just below where people can ask questions from JustAnswer. How often do you find people just emailing you instead of using JustAnswer.com?

Also have you found anyone upset because they had to pay for the answer instead of you, the site owner, just answering the question yourself?

Would really like to know….thanks!

That is quite a nifty trick to both answer your visitor’s questions, and make some affiliate comm. A double whammy win-win situation for everybody, just the way I like it!

This is an interesting solution to being helpful to your visitors while also making a little bit of money. I hadn’t ever seen JustAnswer before but I do have an informational site so this is definitely something I’ll want to try out. I only get about 1/10th of the traffic that you do on your gardening site but that doesn’t mean I can’t make a sale here and there, right?

I was a little skeptical when I first read about JustAnswer but after having a good look the site I’m surprised at how much people are willing to pay for the answer to their questions! Will definately be implementing it into some of my sites.
Thanks for the tip Scott!!

Wow. Now this is interesting. So many blog posts I see are the same old rehashed information. It’s nice to see something producing something new here with some unique content and real benefits to us readers. Thanks for this and please publish more great snippets like this!

Yeh, but with the www I’d have thought you could pretty much find an answer to most things (or use yahoo answers etc.

You can always find the answer to just about anything with a few minutes on google, but I think some are just a bit lazy or are not very good at putting the right search terms into google to get the answer.

I guess its just like everything in life, sometimes it easier to pay someone to do it for you.

I think that its also that you are never 100% the answer you find is accurate with google there are so many blogs ran by people who just spout any old guff that its easy to get the wrong answer or find conflicting answers.

So I can see potential in this.

Does this not scare away your visitors? If they are trying to contact you that means they trust you or having problems with something.
