Excellent breakdown of exactly how you achieve your results!
This is how I have been using this tool but I wasnt sure until this reading this article that I was actually doing the right thing.

One thing I am not sure about - why is it better to use exact? Up until now I had been using phrase for my searches.

One other question about using this method - If I had a site about Laptops and had the site Laptops.com and I found lots of similar keyword phrases that get plenty of traffic - for example I manage to register bestlaptops.com as well, is there a way I can drive ALL that new traffic to my main site rather than having it spread out over two? How can I take advantage of the second domain name without ending up with 2, 10 or 20 sites?

Onto the Google keyword tool how accurate do you believe the results to be.

Thanks Goran

Great post, Scott. It's really interesting and useful to have you walk through the process. I was wondering if you use Google Trends much? Eg. if you fed those "leasing" keywords into Trends, you could see whether they are increasing or decreasing?

Cheers, Jon

I'd like to echo your comment as well Mikael. I always love the posts where you describe in specific detail the opportunity and then the steps you took to capitalize on it.

As position #1 in Google you'll only get roughly 40% of the clicks for that search term anyway, so immediately that would lower it to 4000 clicks. BUT, unfortunately Google includes other sources in their data, so the actual traffic stats on that page are higher than you'll see in reality. I just use them as a relative gauge against other search terms.

If you want accurate stats on how many searches are being done on a phrase on Google, then buy an Adword on that phrase with 100% coverage. Look at the impressions in Adwords and you'll know for certain the number of searches. It's not cheap, but it can put your mind to rest.

Also, don't forget to highly optimize your page titles and meta descriptions to increase your SERP click-through rate.

Could well be hit n miss BJRS, I have compared it to number one's I have and see it being pretty accurate, perhaps me using UK specific results gives a better accurate result than the US version?

I see a lower re-sale value if the site was to be later sold to a business so yes there is value but not for me.

You use exactly the same method as I do. The "exact match" filter with traffic stats is excellent for figuring out market niches and domain niches.
