Catching up after the school holidays
The school summer holidays are finally over and though they have been highly enjoyable (boating, skiing, safari park, countless shopping (not so fun with an 11 year old shopaholic), demolishing house, making stuff, relative visiting, etc.) I am looking forward to getting back to the fun of business. It also makes me thankful for choosing the business that I’m in, there are not many jobs or businesses where you can reduce your productivity by 95% for 6 weeks and still enjoy a growth in revenue .
A bit of good news for all us publishers in the UK who receive a large portion of our income from the US. The strength of the dollar means more pounds in our wallet (~£2K up last month) and with the falling house prices it looks like a good time move in the next 12 months, every cloud has a silver lining as they say.
I assume everybody that is reading this has already heard all about Google Chrome, Google’s new web browser. I’ve been giving it a try and am very impressed with the speed of it. If you frequent sites heavy in Javascript (GMail, Analytics, etc.) it is worth downloading purely for those, for me the improved performance is staggering, you can read a decent review over on Geeks are sexy.
Anyway hoping everybody has had a fun summer holiday (let us know what you did or went), more frequent post frequency will now resume.

I’m actually quite anxious to try out Google Chrome, but alas, there are two things holding me back:
1. No extensions. Therefore, my HTML signature in gmail is a no-go
2. I’m on a Mac, and thus far Chrome is only PC-based

I really like Google Chrome. It’s so fast and well designed. It takes me less than five minutes to set my default browser to it. My only complaint is sometimes “back” button doesn’t work because the last page use redirect.
So far I’m really impressed with Chrome. As web programmer I am pleased to see browser developers put more emphasis on JavaScript performance.
Try putting about:internets in the address bar of Chrome. It’s a nice easter egg.
I have just downloaded this morning and run it today. My first experience is great! I’ve also written a review for this new web browser on SoftSift.
Anyway, this is definitely highly recommended for those who thinks Firefox is winning over Microsoft IE. Well, this is far more likely to be a possible contender.

I’ve now switched to Chrome on my main desktop for the majority of my browsing. I normally have dozens of windows and tabs open and the performance is great.
Welcome to join the “dark side” of the browser war, Al =) For many years, as I know you have been a loyal Microsoft fan, this must be something that strongly attracted you to its use.

Looks like I’m going to have to try out Chrome this weekend… if only to be in with the in crowd!
I’m just nervous that it will render my site differently and that means yet another browser to account for when designing.
Cheers, Jon

At the moment there isn’t anything that Chrome can offer me above what I get from FF and IE. Maybe in time I will change but for now Im sticking with FF. Im not going to change just for the sake of it. Falling pound is good for those piblishers in the UK, especially if you hold shares in US companies as well
