August 1st Bits n bobs

Posted by Scott on August 1st, 2008 .

Some bits and bobs this week, been busy trying to juggle making an effort to get out and about during the kids summer hols and trying to be productive.

Looking to join Nominet and get my own tag next week, it costs £400+VAT  setup and £100+VAT per year but that means I can then try and catch names myself, very late to the party but it will improve the my chances of catching the odd decent quality name. A drop catching service may be after 30 names in one day and uses up it’s allowed requests where as I can concentrate on one or 2 names.

I also have a couple of names on my radar that should drop early before they are due and know the exact days they drop so I’d prefer to have something more efficient than hand regging them in place, I have to try anyway.

I also picked up a couple of .com’s this week - Inverness City and DundeeCity, always fancied doing a geo domain, Inverness is one of the smallest cities in the UK but it’s a huge tourist destination with Loch Ness/Nessie and the Highlands on it’s back door so I am looking forward to developing it.

Google launches it’s affiliate network.

If you can’t get enough of your Analytics data Google Tutor shows you how to receive it via email.

How do you see Adsense from Net Business Blog makes interesting reading.

The game this week is Cave Escaper, I am on level 42 out of 50 so far.

Congrats to your purchase of Inverness City! I see that you are using eDirectory.com as the foundation of your new site. Did you jump in and buy the license or opt for the monthly rental? Good luck

How do you find out about domains that will drop early, and know the exact date of drop?

Can’t say just now Rob until I have tested it out.

Getting your own nominet tag is something in itself that you could monetise surely? There must be a few others who would pay for the personal service.

Nice domain, I didn’t realise that anyone could join Nominet, £400 and £100 per year isn’t so bad when you consider the value it could bring if it helps to pick up some good domains. I’m not going ot look at this weeks game - I’ve got too much work to do :)

I am very excited about the new Google Aff. Network. I have to admit that I’m a little bit hesitant though, as Google will be able to track my marketing from a-z. If I’m using legitimate SEO techniques though, I would think I should be fine.

Any thoughts on this?

If it’s legit I wouldn’t worry about it, Google already knows more than your mother does about you.

I wonder in what way does Google get all this info ;)
