A few more Friday links

Posted by Al on August 15th, 2008 .

This may be old news but I’ve just spotted Adsense for Feeds in Adsense Setup, then the page crashes when I try to visit it :) .

I’m heading to Leeds this afternoon for a blogger meetup, anybody else going? [Edit: No I'm not now, next time though]

WordPress 2.61 is now available for download, we will be installing that shortly.

No game today (there was 2 last week) but I do have two gadget competitions running over on CG with a few prizes up for grabs.

I really don’t like the idea of RSS advertising. People trust RSS to be straight data, and they expect to be taken to your site when they click on it - not to an advertiser’s site.

I agree, advertising on RSS is going to piss people off. I would prefer to see feeds kept clean. However, there’s no stopping the machine and given we are all in the business of making money from ads we shouldn’t really be complaining.

Thanks for the links. I didn’t know there was a Wordpress North group (I’m in Sheffield) - have joined the mailing list.

Cheers, Jon

I think it depends on the RSS advertising. If it’s in your face and flashy, it will make people mad. The adsense stuff probably won’t get under people’s skin too much if the content is good.

I’m really dubious about how the kind of CTR you’ll get with Adsense for Feed Ads, I think that most of the time, people who use RSS would not be the people who click Adsense that much.

Might be worth trying out as a trial and I would be interested in hearing about anyone’s views as to how it works.
