A few more Friday tidbits

Posted by Al on July 25th, 2008 .

Hope everybody’s enjoying the summer holidays, so far I’ve done a bike ride, picnic and cinema trip. Great thing about this business is it makes money without me.

Foreclosure.com has purchased Property.com from Rick Schwartz, no official sale price has been given.

Matt Cutts posted that some penalties will be expiring and a toolbar update on the way

Hey folks, I wanted to let you know that new toolbar PageRank values should become visible over the next few days. I’m expecting that also in the next few days that we’ll be expiring some older penalties on websites.

Scour.com pays you to search. They combines results from Google, Yahoo and MSN and then lets you vote/review the results, when enough votes have been cast they will be reflected in future results. I like the idea and the fact they pay you to search (albeit I expect s minimal amount) is bonus, they also have a referral scheme which explains why I received at least a dozen emails about it :) . A side effect of the combining results from the 3 main engines means you can use Scour to quickly see where you rank on all 3.

Rag Doll 1.5 is out, another 25 levels of cannon shooting stickman fun (if anybody manages to complete the last level please let me know how).

Yay! completed, you knock the top bolder which comes down and creates a ramp(may take a few shots) - you can then shoot a man at the ramp and it gets directed up to the target. Off to watch Batman in the cinema now my work here is done!

I wonder how many sites will see extra traffic because of the penalties expiring.

Actually, that was a lame comment by me. LOL. I am sure nobody but google could give an exact number of sites effected.

It would be interesting to see a site which had penalties removed and see what changes it made. That is what I meant to say.

Toolbar updates are not followed the same way these days as it used to be. Its craze is almost over.

Anyone got any ideas on what the expiring penalties are? Nice of Matt to announce the PR update, should stop all that crazy speculation over at places like DP. Another addictive game posted, I’m not going to even look at this one, if I do I know I’ll end up spending hours playing it!

I would love it if it means my PR5 site that was google-slapped goes back up to a PR5…

Perhaps it’s the penalties on all those ‘top’ directories that are expiring? A lot of the big directories like Aviva went from PR7 to PR0 earlier this year!

My site went from PR1 to PR3 last week so I have a renewed interested in PR.

Marc Eilbeck, it’s your outbound links that you need to worry about. Linking into ‘bad neighbourhoods’ will affect your PR (casinos and the like…).

Try this checker:

A tidbit I stumbled across this week - have you seen the new Keyword Research Wordpress Plugin?

http://www.semvironment.com/keyword-research-wordpress-plugin/

Looks like it could become an indispensible tool for the SEO-conscious blogger! (I’m not an affiliate, or in any way connected, just an enthusiastic fan)

Cheers, Jon
