Back from Vacation and now off to Elite Retreat

Posted by Al on April 1st, 2008 .

I’m now back from my “somewhat” relaxing early summer holiday and first off need to send a massive thanks to Scott for the extra excellent posts he’s been doing the past fortnight and a congratulations on his 2 domain purchases, it will be interesting to see how they develop.

Whilst Scott is investing in domains I’m investing in knowledge and (as mentioned before) am flying out to Elite Retreat tomorrow to learn from the best in the business. I’ve priced up the trip and it comes in at:

Elite Retreat cost: $5,000
Flights: $5,600
Hotel: ~$1,000
Transport to airport:     $500
Total: $12,100

This is the most (by a huge margin) that I’ve ever invested in my self/business/anything really but I’m hoping and expecting it to be well worth it and I reckon both Scott and I will of made some cool, profitable but entirely different investments this year and I’m looking forward to seeing them pan out over the year(s).

Next little investment was $168K for Daily Blog Tips and the Daily Network. I’ve known the owner Daniel for ages and thought it would be a cool addition to my network (full story over on DBT and Blog Storm).

Right I’m off to start packing (again), so if you have any questions that you’d like me to put to Jeremy Shoemaker or any of the the other speakers at Elite Retreat, leave in a comment below and I’ll see what I can do (no guarantees obviously).

Finally I have 2 congratulations to send out, firstly to Alicia and Matthew (Gadget Venue) on the birth of their daughter Kirsten. Matthew was an absolute star when I was away and kept a look on my sites for me, though his unpaid dedication was lacking at times, as this text clearly shows:

Looks like cg has dropped just now. I am limited on time today as our baby is on its way 5 weeks early. Have you reprted the one just now?

Thanks Matt.

Other congratulations goes to Marc Evans who finally handed in his resignation from the traditional 9 to 5 and is about to enter the (hopefully) lucrative world of .Net contracting.

I’ll be posting live from ER later this week, though I’m not looking forward to my 4 AM start and 15+ hours of travelling time tomorrow.

Looking forward to it Fred, should be fun. I may have to give the go karts a miss though as I managed to screw up my knee on holiday.

12 g’s is quite an outlay- I could buy a cracker of a domain for that Al, but as you say it could be an even wiser investment in the long run and good networking opportunity for you.. enjoy the experience mate!

Yeah I must admit I gulped a bit when I added it up. I’m hoping we’ll both look back smugly in a couple of years and be able to say that investment I made in 2008 was the most sensible investment ever and not:
Al: Bugger, I wish I’d copied Scott and bought a cool domain rather than traveling poncey first class
Scott: Auld eejit, how am I going to pay for all these domain renewals, I knew I should of accepted that $1K Al offered me for tvs.co.uk
:)

That is one serious investment. My biggest to date is $2K, but it would be nice to be able to make such a sizable purchase in a couple years’ time!

Which April Fools posts Fooled you?…

Like every other day, I opened up my RSS reader on the train heading into work this morning to check out what others had to say around the blogosphere. Now I knew going into the day that there may be some April Fools day posts but after running through…
