Free Page peel script

PagepeelI have a few furniture domains and it is my intent to lease them out, leasing out the sites should offer better value for money for companies than using Adwords.

I have already done this with one site for £500 per month so if I can replicate that a few times I’ll be a happy chappy, but something I have had trouble coming up with was a way to let potential customers know the website was for lease - I wanted to add a few feeds, get the sites indexed but it was also important that if a business person looked over the site I had to make them aware that they could lease the site from me and therefore the site could advertise itself a bit.

I didn’t want to slap large banners or the like and I remember seeing those page peel adverts and thought it could be a good compromise, when you Google ‘page peel script’ all I seemed to find was a paid version on a long copy type sales page which immediately put me off.

However after searching for a while I found a FREE page peel script at Webpicasso, you can see it in action on bedroom furniture, let the page load and look up in the top right corner. Not overbearing and better than nothing, an excellent free script.

  1. Scott, not sure if its been answered elsewhere, but if you lease out a domain for a period of time, and the company uses bad practice, black hat seo techniques, buys links etc, how do you protect your domain from things that could damage “it” for a long time or even been banned with say Google?

    • You can’t - that would always be a risk - just as risky for the client though and there should be no need if you rank the domain first. In my contract there are clauses as regards acceptable use and not to use it illegally or to infringe on nay copyrights etc.

  2. I saw some product available to sell online but the only decent banner he had involved the page peel script - which someone else who is no doubt him or his mate was selling for something like $80 so to get it for free is very handy 🙂

    Ta!

  3. Thanks for the link to the script Scott. It would make a nice “buy this site” ad too.

Question about bedroomfurniture.com: I just put up a simple adsense page for http://www.futonfurniture.co.uk and I am eventually going to add affiliate products. I’ve been wondering about how to deal with pricing. The affiliate program I’m thinking of using doesn’t have pricing in their product link. On your bedroomfurniture.com pages you have pricing for the products. Is this hard coded? And, if it is, how do you make sure prices on your site stay current with the affiliate vendor’s store, without doing lots of manual work?

    Thanks,

    Nigel

    • bedroomfurniture.com sold for $280k - I own the .net , I only use merchants with product feeds which I can download and update every few weeks which allows that site to display products with prices.

  4. Sorry, slip of the thumb. I meant .net 🙂

By feed, do you mean they give you a spreadsheet with all of the product info?

    • I’d love to have sold the com 🙂 The feeds you get are CSV files, like excel sheets that list the product name, description, price, category. I paid someone to create a script that could import the data from the feed into a database and then display it - I’ll probably do a post on that soon.

  5. Scott, that future post on the script you are using for importing feeds would be very interesting reading. Been looking into the Price Tapestry script myself which I imagine does similar stuff to yours and was wondering if you had any experience with it? Cheers.

    • Price tapestry works fine Mike, I have used it, it’s cheap and imports feeds and displays them well enough - timed out a lot when trying to import them for me but that could be cheap hosting I was testing it with.

  6. Great find on the peelaway script. I remember looking into them a while back and ultimately deciding to do something else. When I saw that a nearby small-town newspaper had adopted them, it made me wonder if I’d be taking them down as fast as I put them up.

  7. This is a great idea, I might add this to a few domains I plan to lease.

One issue though. I’m on Firefox on Mac, when I mouseover it doesn’t peel out, it just disappears.

  8. I like the peel away script ad - Thanks Scott! Great find!

  9. Check out http://www.FreePagePeel.com

It’s the same code as the Webpicasso script, but it will automatically configure the javascript file for you. You just upload the small and large picture, define a link URL and it creates the JS file and puts all the files in a zip for you.

  10. Page peeling is a great way to draw attention to the navigation path through awebsite. I didn’t realise it was so easy to implement.
