It’s not the 5, 7, or 10 item lists that are a pain, it’s the 132 ways to do this or 199 ways to do the other that the likes of mashable provide that are the real pain, who’s got the time to read all their posts letalone check every item in one of their lists.

Couldn’t agree more but look at the front page of of Digg (or any magazine for that matter). People won’t stop using those headlines until they aren’t successful anymore.
