No more numbers please!!

NumbersBoy o’ boy am I sick of seeing blog posts titles with numbers in them, if I see one more 5 this, the top 10 that and 7 ways to the other I’ll crack up. The amount of blog posts that are churning out regurgitated and link baiting posts with lists are ever growing and it’s old and tiring.

Anyway, end rant.

Monday’s Post

I have a fair bit on today but I wanted to mention, on Monday I will be making a post on how you genuinly can turn £500 into £100,000, when you see huge domain sales and large deals being done it probably looks well out of your budget and league but it doesn’t have to be the case.

It’s not guaranteed, it’s not foolproof and it could take a year - if that lost your interest then you may as well stop reading, if it didn’t then subscribe or visit the site on Monday and I’ll tell you what I’m planning and you can do exactly the same. In fact I should probably put the details in an ebook and sell it for $$, it is a simple idea but the theory is good.

  1. So when I do these checklists I’m going to need to put the total count in the title, gotcha.

I’m looking forward to Monday now

  2. Great list. Awesome Stuff!!!
Looking forward for more amazing stuff.

  3. Looking forward to reading that on monday :)

  4. Monday the traffic will explode….

  5. Actually, I do admit that even I understand all of what you do more or less, most of it does seem out of my reach as I read it. I guess I just have to start taking some chances…

  6. No more numbers please?
“you genuinly can turn £500 into £100,000”

    • “blog posts titles with numbers in them” 😉 my gripe is with how to and top 5 and 7 ways to type of posts, they are breeding like rabbits.

  7. That’s cause on problogger once it was posted that posts with “the top 5 ways to” get more attention and are more popular, so like sheep, everyone just does it.

  8. Okay, the title is a joke, I just wanted to see you explode today. :)

I must say in the course of a day, reading Bloglines, I come across dozens of posts that start with a number. It certainly can be annoying, especially when you say the same theme of lists over and over.

  9. I am sure your statistics will skyrocket on Monday. I will not miss it. Then some other day you can tell us the results you got from pre-announcing this. Probably quite some more than you would have had if you had just posted it. That would make also an interesting post.

  10. This is post is like watching a television show that is starting to get good, and then you are hit with a “… to be continued” :)

Look forward to the read on Monday.

  11. Thanks for the inspiration, Scott. I just wrote “10 things I hate about blog post titles with numbers in them” He-he!

  12. Couldn’t agree more but look at the front page of of Digg (or any magazine for that matter). People won’t stop using those headlines until they aren’t successful anymore.

    • You’re right… Top 10,100 etc seems really popular on Digg for some reason.

Look forward to the post Scott (unless I win the EuroMillion jackpot of course).

  13. It’s not the 5, 7, or 10 item lists that are a pain, it’s the 132 ways to do this or 199 ways to do the other that the likes of mashable provide that are the real pain, who’s got the time to read all their posts letalone check every item in one of their lists.

I’m now writing a post entitled “10 ways to avoid numbers in your post titles”

    db

  14. The title of this post should have been “1 reason why I hate numbers in titles” 😉

  15. Haha my RSS subscription to this blog is probably the most valuable one I have. I’ve learned tons from your site and posts on other forums. Can’t wait to see what you’re cooking up on Monday!
