Find trends and inspiration for future tech domains

Company websites are great for information and ideas for reg fee domains-
When I was researching genomics I checked out genome.com – an actual site, on their homepage it says “Functional Genomic Fingerprinting”

I checked and both these were available….
FunctionalGenomicFingerprinting.com
GenomicFingerprinting.com

Now they could be worth quite a lot come time!

When I was researching braille and products for blind people which is a growing market I checked out this site (http://www.freedomscientific.com) on their products page I find specific products & terms I then check to see if they are available and low and behold free to register were;

Screen Reading Software [ScreenReadingSoftware.com]
BrailleDisplays.com

Nice couple there I think, so basically find topics from any source and then check out actual websites and often the very products they want to develop and promote are available!
Crazy huh?

So, I will try and give a pure example to illustrate my point further

That is basically what I have been doing, quick point to finish off, when I am talking about product names I am talking generic product names, not trademarks and company branded products that may get you into trouble.

Great post, and at 9.30am it is still available!

And at 9:39 it’s gone. Why not I thought. I might as well see where it goes for just a few quid.

They never last long if a few people put some juice behind a trendy name :)

These are some good ideas. I had really no intentions of even trying to find good .com domains, as they usually get snapped up too quickly. Perhaps there is still some good opportunity though.

you better believe it. There’s still heaps of good ones to register, better ones to catch on the expired list, and awesome ones on auction.

Just to give you a sneak peak, I was able to corner the gothic clothing market with these killer domains all registered this year

Gothic Clothings
Goth Clothings
Gothic Apparels
Gothic Wears
Goth Wears

ALL DOT COMS !! :D :D:D

This is a really nice way of finding some good domains. The chances are most will never add up to much, but a few could do really well.

Based on this post I just picked up http://www.solarpoweredcharger.net — hopefully I can make something of it. I’ve found some good resources to compile content from, so hopefully it’ll be a winner.

Another one in the portfolio!

I’ve recently bought http://www.opticalchips.co.uk as I expect that technology to really come into play within 2-3 years. But we’ll see…

iwhois.com have a bookmarklet you can use to find domains just highlight words on a page and hit the bookmarklet and checks if it’s available
http://www.iwhois.com/bookmarklet

You can change the code to check for .co.uks

There are times when I’m surprised at what I’m able to grab, and other times when it seems like I can’t think of a single relevant phrase under 5 words. I guess this is why. I should probably spend more time looking for domains for the future than waiting until the project arises.

Is there any particular company you use to register domains with? I just registered some domains in the last few days, most of them .co.uk. I also registered some .com domains but I don’t really want to buy .com domains until i find a register which sells .com domains really cheap. What domain register do you use?
