Golden Age for the Entrepreneur

gold3.jpg
If you have ever wanted to be an entrepreneur now must be the best and easiest time ever, if you choose to take it.

Previously to make it as an entrepreneur you’d have to have the idea for a product or service, get funding to get it started. Create a distribution chain be it your own shop, catalogue etc. Do the job of advertising and marketing and hope like hell it sells. All of these cost time and money.

However with the web our life just got so much easier. If you wanted to start a new site you can register a domain (~$10) and either buy CMS or use on of thousands that are available for free. If your site is genuinly unique and there are no suitable CMS packages available getting it custom coded is not ridiculously expensive. Once your site is live you have access to a global audience which is something like 6 billion people, crazy.

When it comes to advertising you can quickly run a campaign on Google or similar services and only pay for the visitors it sends and if it doesn’t work you can change or cancel it instantly.

Your site is also working for you 24 hours per day, I actually earn more money when I sleep than I did writing financial systems for a living, crazy.

You can start you online business part-time and only leave the security of the day job when you know it’s making enough money to support you.

Even if you have no clue on what to do there is a phernominal amount of information freely available. Want to learn about blogging read Pro Blogger, need to know about maing money, check out Dosh Dosh, Shoemoney, etc. Need to learn about SEO have a look at SEO Book or blogs like Gray Wolf.

It’s a fantastic time to be in business, so what are you waiting for?

  1. What can I say Al? I owe a lot of the impetus I received to quit my dayjob from reading this blog! I’m now fully self-employed for 2 months and 5 days, and I’m almost doubling what I made at my dayjob. I have yet to break into affiliate marketing though, but I know that when I do it will augment my residual income.

    • Congratulations on leaving the rat race Justin, it sounds like you’re doing great.

      • Yeah, things are going considerably well. At this rate of growth however, time management is becoming a serious issue. Maybe you should do some articles on how to successfully manage a small business, when to hire help, etc!

  2. Correction – The link to Gray Wolf is incorrect!
I completely agree with you. Now is the time to start something like and leverage those hundreds of tools, services to make money. Perhaps, in long term is what one should look for when they are new to this.
Thank you for the post, you are making me think!

  3. Couldn’t agree more with you Al, it really is an amazing time to make money online and make moves now so that in years to come we have no (or few) regrets.

  4. I wonder how many still sit back and keep trying to come up with that golden idea but never actually try anything. I know a bunch of people who keep having ideas but they never actually do anything about it.

  5. Great post… very four hour work weekish, you can do marketing research to validate produce ideas before having to make a big commitment.

  6. People often say, “Someday I’m going to do it!” Thos poor souls don’t realize that “someday is today!”

    • I see that on forums all of the time, as soon as I see someone saying something like “I might give that a go” or “I should try that” you just know it isn’t going to happen.

      • Time management. If it was really womething that they wanted to do, they would make time for it. Instead, they have made time for something else. Therefore, there is no time for someday.

  7. I agree that things are much easier now. However, now that I am seeing success with my sites the American dollar is falling which is hurting me as an Australian.

Every month my earnings have risen in American dollars, but after conversion to AUD.. im earning less and less per month.

    • It sucks for a lot of people. Same here for me in the UK although my earnings from the net are increasing at a quicker rate then the dollar is falling. It would still be nice to see the earnings grow even quicker and the dollar stay stable 🙂

      • The dollar is a pain but does provide a nice incentive to earn more month on month, not that you really need an incentive for that 🙂

  8. You’re right. We are so lucky to be born in the age of the Internet.

And the sad thing is that 99% of the people have no idea what’s going on with earning money online and spend their entire days in slavery working and working and …

    • Shhhh!! don’t tell them!!

I’ve been self-employed for 6months now. Stability is an issue, as is time management. Different stresses, different strains. And I’ve yet to have a day where I’ve not worked at least part of the evening.

Still, it’s the long haul thats important and the long term gains. Juggling the many opportunities is challenging!

      Stephe

      • If you don’t mind me asking – what is it that you’re doing that is unstable?

        • lol. My head at times!!

Stability in a general sense, though my code sometimes gets a bit ropey!

Going from a steady monthly salary, to an ‘unstable’ income. Probably the biggest reason most don’t take the jump.
