Bits and bobs

Posted by Scott on November 22nd, 2007 .

Bits and piecesA few various odds and ends and things to mention today, December is fast approaching and is busy for all of us online and offline so we may not post everyday. As you can gather Al is busy selling every product known to man and in quantity, I have a plethora of new domains to develop, we then have Xmas and New Year and I have a child due at the start of January.

So we will post as and when rather than daily during the week, just have to see how it goes really.

____________

Also and due to this if anyone reading feels they would like to help out guest posting then please get in touch, looking for anyone that can post about their learning experiences while sharing tips and ideas so not self promotional, if you feel you can spare the time then please do contact us. Looking for one off posts and regular contributors so draft out a post or two and send it in, doesn’t matter if you specialise in one thing or many, we are all here to share and learn.

____________

On a sidenote, my best mate who runs a joinery company has certainly been bitten by the domain bug and although he would admit to knowing little about the internet and domain names before, he has been quite a revelation in suggesting available .co.uk domain names, the following were all available and registered in the last week or so!

LaminateFloorTiles.co.uk
LaminateTileFlooring.co.uk
outdoorchair.co.uk
outdoorchairs.co.uk
shedlights.co.uk
solarpowerlight.co.uk
solarpowerlights.co.uk
outdoortable.co.uk
outdoortables.co.uk
pathlights.co.uk
patiolight.co.uk
lowvoltagelight.co.uk

Top work Ian, I especially like solarpowerlights, no holding him back! and nothing like a fresh perspective. I have also just agreed a price and bought an absolutely fantastic domain for myself for £1468 which I think is a bargain, will have to wait until I get the transfer forms and everything completed before I can comment on it.

____________

After the recent email from Google about the change in the clickable area on our Adsense I have to say I have noticed no change in the CTR or earnings, has anyone seen a drop in their CTR after the change?

No drop in earnings or CTR here, if anything it’s the opposite.

I need a mate like Ian, all my mates share with me is porn. I was in the pub with them last night, I got asked yet again what I do and they still think I do bugger all for a living.

It’s funny, I often find it difficult to think of things to write about but at the moment there is a load of stuff I could post but it’s more profitable to put my time elsewhere. I’ll do my best to continue posting but at times I’m sure the $ will take my time else where.

A bit off the topic, the domains that you have mentioned in your posts. Suppose you want to develop them, what would be the type of site you’d go for?

Personally, I can’t think of anything else than a mini site. What do you think?

Yes Toka, simple specific mini sites or aff. sales, I prefer more general terms than specific usually but for £3.50 per year they are low risk, maybe even for flipping in a few years time if the market was there.

Just wanted to share a few more domains that are available if anybody is looking for some more to buy:

GardenShears.co.uk
GardenShear.co.uk
CableReel.net
GardenShear.net
GardeningGlove.net
PruningSaws.co.uk
PruningSaws.net
Secateurs.net
PruningSaw.co.uk
Secateur.co.uk
GardenSprayer.co.uk
PruningSaw.net
LawnScarifiers.com
LawnScarifiers.net
GardenSprinkler.net

I’ve found that there are great inspiration to be found in the “filler sites”. E.g. this one: http://gardensprayer.com/

I just check out all their categories and test what domains are available. EASY STUFF.

I have seen a rise this last 6 weeks in Adsense and other streams. The first $40 day happened for me a few days ago which is good. That drop I had in Jan this year killed earnings for the first several months of the year for me :S

(Comments wont nest below this level)

can you not delegate or automate the birth in January? :) :)
I hope it all goes well, January is going to be an expensive month for you in the future so all the more reason to have a good christmas, sales wise.

No drops in Adsense for me too. Actually, the CTR is about the same, but eCPM seems to fluctuate a lot.

I wouldn’t mind guest-posting every now and then. Are you looking for any specific topics?

Nothing specific Justin, anything that would be of interest to others, tips, methods and points of interest would all be welcome and appreciated.
