Free Website reviews, a weekend away and some booze.

Edinburgh Castle

Al mentioned last week after working together on a few sites for over a year we had arranged to meet up for the first time this weekend in Edinburgh with our families. It’s a funny thing working online with someone and then meeting in person for the first time, you half meet up as strangers but don’t do small talk as you already know where they live, what they do etc, quite surreal. Then again not quite as surreal as going out for a meal and seeing Al’s daughter order a 50/50 pizza with baked beans and cheese on one side and marshmallows and chocolate on the other, it was a pleasure to meet up and enjoy good company staying in an Apex hotel with a view of Edinburgh Castle from our rooms, a great excuse to get out of the house for a few days on a ‘business trip’.

It was also refreshingly the first time I could speak to someone apart from my wife on subjects like websites, development & monetisation, I get the feeling my family & friends just humour me when I get excited and talk about buying domains and the like 🙂 so it really was good to site down have a few pints and chat.

Sometimes a productive chat is one where you have to agree to go back to the drawing board and with one site it’s time to re-think our base code as the script used on it has been disappointing in it’s performance, so a learning curve and a lesson learned, it is the type of site we can post about later, once we get it sorted and in a healthier direction.

On the subject of Self Made Minds we agreed on things to be implemented in the short, medium and long term and it’s overall direction. All comments and their various merits and pitfalls were discussed so we appreciated the feedback a great deal.

Site Clinic - Free Website reviews
This is something we will be doing, if you have a website that has a good original idea and unique content and you have just hit a brick wall or find yourself struggling to take it up a level or languishing in the search results then by contacting us with the site and giving us as much information as possible with it’s stats we would take the time to have a really good look through the site, the genre and your competitors and look to offer ways of taking the site up a level and pushing it on to further it’s success.

It can be a case of you can’t see the forest for the trees at times when you work in an insular manner so a fresh pair of eyes or two could be just what you need, we have also done this in the past on a profit share for those that needed privacy with great success.

So if you think your website fits the bill for a free website review then please do contact us with the url, traffic & income stats and where you feel you are at with the site and it’s main problems and if selected all we ask in return is that you write an update once you implement changes and recommendations so we can revisit how it went.

  1. It was great to meet up with you and your mob too Scott, you can’t beat talking about making money over a beer or two. I still reckon you need to automate more 🙂

  2. I think we can all relate to the part where you mention talking about websites and domains and no one really knows what you are talking about. 😉

What really wakes them up is to show them your daily earnings and telling them that you earned that while sleeping.

  3. Edinburgh is a great place to meet up, and especially it is more for a casual talk. By the way, the Site Clinic is a great idea! Keep it up, Al and Scott. SSM is always going to be my talking point, whenever someone ask me about earning from online.

By the way, I noticed that the contact-us link is using dynamic URL, I thought it would have been better to use a clean URL, like the one on your sidebar? Is there a specific purpose? Naturally, you won’t want Google to crawl duplicated content.

    Cheers,
    Keith

  4. Fun to read about the visit and follow-up. Great idea to offer your eyes on our websites. I want to implement on feature and then get some feedback for the next round. If my sites started earning the kind of money you have been talking about then I might win her attention back again, in the meantime I get the feeling I am supposed to spend my time in other ways 😮

  5. Will all the information about the free website reviews be revealed in selfmademinds or the free web site reviews are done in privately? 😛

  6. I like the idea of the free website reviews. Also it would potentially allow others to share input although hopefully it will be constructive critisism if needed rather then full on taking the mik.

  7. I agree wholeheartedly trying to talk to someone in the non internet world about earning cents of clicks only goes so far 😉

  8. Yes I do like the idea of a free review website as there aren’t that many around.

  9. I came across this while visiting Scotish blogs, and have to agree that Eidenburgh is indeed a remarkable city.
