Top 10 undeveloped domains

Posted by Scott on August 16th, 2007 .

BuildHaving domains undeveloped and parked or worse just a 404 page can often gets some people’s heckles up, on the flip side we don’t drive past beautiful areas of land beside lakes and places of natural beauty and curse the landowner for not building houses there.

If you view domains as land then undeveloped domains just look like the investment they are but if you develop domains it’s often easy to look at them as a waste.

I would say a large part of it is also jealousy, I know when I see fantastic domains undeveloped two things spring to mind;

1. Is it worth sending an email, nah, surely they know the value of what they have and I won’t get it cheap

2. <green eyed monster> If only I had that domain I would do something with it, what a waste </green eyed monster>

Whether you see them as someone else’s moments of genius by buying them at the right time as an investment or you see them as a scourge I think you’ll be surprised by some of the better one’s worth 6 & 7 figures that are all undeveloped.

I was going to try and rank them 1-10 but they are all fantastic so in no particular order but let me know which one you think is best.

  • Pro.com

Excellent LLL.com 404 Forbidden page!!!, not even tempted by parking money and not indexed in Google.

  • Trade.com

Parked – wholesale is big bucks

  • Stock.com

No hosting setup, not indexed, ranked or parked and what a name!

  • USA.com

I think this parked LLL.com has some great letters ;)

  • Home.com

Parked – Most people have one offline, could also be applied to online.

  • Toy.com

Parked – Another premium LLL but the value is in the word.

  • Fight.com

Parked – I’d have a go at wrestling this domain from it’s owner, huge industry.

  • Dance.com

Parked – but this domain makes no moves

  • Host.com

Parked – It does what it says on the tin, perfect hosting domain

  • Save.com

Forwarded – excellent shopping relate domain or comparison site.

Wow, that’s quite the list and everyone of them would put most of us well on the way to a happy nest egg retirement and if developed their value would have no limit. If I had to choose one I’d be tempted with USA.com but just to sell it, if I chose one to keep & develop it would be trade.com for me personally, what about you?

It is worth bearing in mind that these are assets and I would urge you to try and think of them as someone else’s undeveloped land……. ahh sod it …what a waste. :)

Hi Scott,

I read your post and couldn’t agree any less. I wasn’t going to comment on it because “I agree” doesn’t really seem like a comment but more like “spam”.

Instead I would like to comment you on all your great posts. I only signed up recently and I haven’t had a change to read that many of your posts yet (I normally read through RSS). But I must say that what I have read so far has been absolutely great stuff.

I can’t wait to see more of the same quality. Thank you!

I have seen some killer domains and I also feel the frustration when I see nothing done with them. Like you say though, I dont drive past un used land and get upset about it. LOL.

Yahoo’s top searches has listed WWE in the top 10 for the last few months. The potential for Fight.com!!! What a waste! Too bad we can’t all get together and put up a Self Made Minds group bid!

it’s not just when you see good domains like these with nothing on them, what’s even more annoying is when I am looking for domains for me and the .com hasn’t got anything on it or is just parked. I just think ‘damnit, I could do so much with that domain!!’.

toy.com would be my choice from the above if I could choose one.

I could see so much cool stuff with Dance.com. But really, the toy.com is great (how did toyrus not get it?) But the one at the top Pro.com is perhaps the saddest one for me.

I think trade.com has the most potential… so generic and yet so business-oriented.

After that, I think home.com has the most potential… just a massive array of options there.

Thats a pretty solid list of quality domain names. I can only guess the owners are just waiting for the right offer.

Great blog. I really liked it. I have also created a lens in same niche. This is my first time , hope u guys like it. Here’s a brief intro: We’ve all probably heard before how real estate holds one of the surest keys to financial independence and wealth. These days however, it’s not just about agents selling houses and real estate properties. Now, we also have the flippers. Flipping houses is one of the best ways to enter the real estate scene.more detail visit here http://www.squidoo.com/how-to-flip-houses-for-big-profits/

Thing is you don’t know how much they are making with PPC. if you have a look at some of the domains in the top sales charts you will see many of them are PPC parking pages
